Has anyone ever turned the wood above I got a blank the other day and it has some beautiful figure in it. I was able to drill it easily and turning it will be the next challenge.

Sharp tools and a gentle touch! Bubinga is pretty sturdy, but the cross cut leaves it vulnerable to "catches" with your skew or gouge. Take it nice and slow.

Well I found out how hard it was turning it normally but the cross grain was like iron and almost finshed shaping the first piece and pow right between the eyes on my shield, glad I had it on. Anyways ended up turning the second piece into a fan pull and the wood was beautiful when it was finished with iridescent qualities would have made a great entry but thats the way it goes. Ended up turning a pen out of figured and it came out nice but not as nice as the fan pull did. Going to try again when I get some more and will sand down the edgeds this time less chance of a catch at first I feel but then I am new and learnign every day.
