I tried to make a cross Euro pen with Ebony and a wood I have not used before, Pink Ivory. Ebony, Ivory, Neat idea huh? Well I am having problems with the Ebony staining the ivory, looks kinda dirty. Any suggestions? I may just give up and use pink corian next time.

when you get the pen to shape take a skew and use it like a scraper to gently scrape the blank to take off the ground in sawdust. After it looks clean just finish it do not take sandpaper to it. Gently push the skew straight into the blank. It seems wrong but it works.

Sounds scary...

I am pretty good with a skew, but even when I forgoe coffee I get to only about a 2-400grit finish with a skew. I usually sand and then pad down to 800grit. So so the last pre-finish step is to skew only the crosses? I like the look of these pens, but a lot of time to invest in experimentation. Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try. Any others?
