Anyone having to deal with this here? I have had 2 colonoscopies this year. The first showed some irritable bowel, and the Dr. kept suggesting diverticulitis, crohns, IBS, and such, but all tests were negative. Second scope was about 2 weeks ago, pretty much the same results, but they took some blood for a test. Said my blood work was consistant with Crohns. Supposed to meet with the Dr. in a couple of weeks. Some guys I work with act like I have recieved a death sentence!

Paul,

I know secondhand what a problem this can be. My son has had problems since having his gall bladder removed about 5 years ago. It has gotten worse of late, and he is scheduled for a colonoscopy in January.

I am sure you have read up on Crohns and know that it is a disease that can mimic the other conditions you mentioned. Here's hoping that both you and my son can get a diagnosis and some relief.

As to the guys at work, you know they speak from a lack of knowledge. There are many diseases that make life difficult in different ways.

Hi Paul,

I have an older brother with Crohns, His was diagnosed about 5 years ago, and after it was cleared up has not returned, although it can flare up again. Don't fear though it's not a death sentence.

Take care and have fun turning.

Paul

Paul, sounds like the same situation I am in. I had a colonoscopy with no negative results. Doctor told me I had IBS and GERD. Told me to eat more fiber and I would be fine. Still having more problems but I refuse to have another colonoscopy (worst experience of my life and I am still paying financial for it.) I am just learning to live with it.

Paul, I sent you a PM. Contact me if you have any questions. My mother has Crohns, and I have Ulcerative Colitis. Unfortunately I have alot of experiece with it.

Dave

Thanks guys. Thing is they are so suprised as I have absolutely no symptoms what so ever. My BIL has colitis, so I have some knowledge thru him, but................I am not concerned about the guys I work with. They know someone that has had the worst case thing and that is what they know, so.

Hi Paul!

I have a number of clients that have it, and a cousin who had it. I do know there are some good meds out that help a lot. Good luck! Let us know how it goes. We're here for you!

Scott.

My first wife had the disease. It did cause her problems; but was not debilitating.

While I am sure it is not a happy prospect, there are a lot worse things you could come down with.

Best of luck!!

Paul, I know nothing about Chrons except what I see on the drug commercials on TV, but My wife has diverticulitis, IBS and she's diabetic on top of that... she has good days and bad days, but being the trooper she is, it rarely ever keeps her from doing what she wants... on her bad days, it slows her down, but doesn't keep her down...

Good luck and keep the chin up.

Paul,
Please talk to your MD about gluten intolerance. I've had bowel problems all my life till I saw the right doctor 3 years ago. It takes a blood antibody test to find out, or just cut out all gluten for 2 weeks if the test cost is too much. It's really hard to be gluten free, but I sure feel a lot better. More products on the store shelves all the time. Also found out that cow's milk isn't one of my bodies favorites either. I don't have a histamine reaction to these foods, I have an antibody reaction to them. My immune system kicks into high gear when I eat them, and really feel bad for a few days.

Paul,

A longtime friend (35 years) contracted Crohns in '75. She'd been feeling poorly for about year before it was diagnosed. She had surgery, spent a month recuperating, and then felt great again. She's lived a good full life since with no recurrences. Apparently diet is key…

Now she's over 60 and going stronger than many young folks I know.

Hang in there… We'll be thinking about you…

Steve

I have to agree with the suggestion to have the Gluten Antibody test. I have been gluten free for almost a year, and it has made a big difference in my life.

Well, went for a follow up today, and Doc says it is deffinately Crohns. Going to set up a small bowel follow up to check the small intestine, I think just for a base line, as I am still with out symptoms. Forgot to ask about the glutten thing. Will have to check on that. She says diet is some help, but not all inclusive. I have cut out a lot of things anyway, just for health and hopefully to lose weight anyway. Thanks for the prayers and emails form you all.

I had my Gall Bladder out and fell into a very minute percentage of people who's liver does not take over. Thus, a very similar bowl reaction like Crohns. My gastro Doctor discovered I'm not Crohn's or IBS. He calls it Chronic Colitis. The bile salts have no way of being stopped with certain food trigger or sometimes stress.

He put me on a medice called Welchol. A drug design for Cholesteral problems. It acts like a binder an helps a great deal with my Colitis. Although on occasion I still need to take some Immodium. Most anything green is a food trigger for me along with some sausage makers.

Hope this helps. It's a pain in the butt to have, I know!

I would like to thank you for the comments, encouragement and prayers and emails. This is a great group, and I know I have a lot of friends whether we have met or not here that go beyond just our common interest in pens. Thanks.

Well, git to go do a small bowel follow up next week. Get to drink some chalk, from what I here. Yum yum! Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers. Life IS good!

My wife Sue had/has it. (age 62 but don't mention that I mentioned). Hit her when she was in her 20's. She did have her gall bladder out two years ago but they don't think there is any connection between the two. Sue eats anything and everything. No problems. From her perspective it is very managable. Hang in there and stay positive.

Well, had the small bowel thing today, and as far as I know, all is well. X-ray tech said things looked good. I imagine I will have a follow up with my doc soon and will know more then.
I really apreciate the thoughts and prayers of you all, and the encouragement I have recieved. The only inconvenience I have is having to take medicine when I don't feel bad!! But hey, I am a blessed man, and nothing will change that.
