Cracked glass effect?

I'd like to add a finial on my pen that looks like shattered glass (see picture). I've tried thinking through how I might get the effect. I can't turn glass, nor do I want actual shattered glass in my pen. I don't think resin will produce shatter lines like this, and if it did, then I'd worry about the stability of the finial eventually falling apart. I've thought maybe a clear resin with silver tinsel, but I don't think it will give the straight, geometric pattern - it will look like resin with tinsel/silver leaf. Has anyone seen something similar? I'd love any ideas from the group about how I might try to recreate a similar look for a finial. Thanks!

Apply a few coats of CA then drop it on a hard surface, worked every time foe me, although that was not the effect I was after

That's what I was thinking a decal with image like the one you posted. You could use Ultraviolet resin over it for a quick and easy finial.

I use this clear semplicita material from Beaufort, and the stuff is so temperamental to crazing that you can possibly get the acrylic surface to craze like that with some heat and polishing compounds. I wouldn't know for sure, though; it's not like I have done it by accident.

You could probably find some craft paper or decals in a hobby store. Especially one that is geared to doll house stuff or even train stuff. You name it those people have it. Or just google cracked glass stickers. Lots of examples.
