well, good folks of IAP, I am converted to a vampire last few weeks since I have had my throat attacked so many times here by some good IAP members that I look like this:

And, don't worry I already ask for permission from the Majesty King of Vampires in TX if I could use this pic. to show you what I am turning out to become now.
People think I am getting lucky and getting hickeys, but I can't tell them where I got those marks from. they might want to join the party. Really!

I don't what you to think I am attacking you in any way Phil. Honestly, I think the questions about woods and antlers are a little much. I don't mind answering a question or two, but I feel like I am being interviewed to re-write the encyclopedia of wood. Now I read why, or someones idea of why you are doing that, and that reason is fine...it's your business, but maybe you should just go look in some encyclopedia's, like wickepedia and find the answers rather than have us answer them all. Many of the questions are so subjective too , that there is no way to truly answer them. Something easy for me to turn, might be the toughest thing you ever spun, or vise versa. How it finishes depends on your experience with finishing and what you use. All of this how I feel too, is how I feel, and does not necessarily reflect how anyone else here feels, because then you get back to more subjective feelings about it again. I'm not attacking you...just letting you know how I feel about it. Perhaps if I was a smarter person, I would not have answered any questions about it in the first place.

Love your anime graphic too btw.

It does seem that lots of people think what you are attempting to do is a cool thing that could help many in the future. Even though I personally am not into the idea, don't let that stop you. I would like to help you out actually, in that I think you should include some warnings with your documentations. Sort of like a liability clause. I'm not sure how it should go exactly, as some of the questions are far more subjective than others, but like take the toxicity statement for example. Perhaps you will list a wood as being non toxic. There is always that one guy out there that is the exception of the rule, as well as the simple fact that no saw dust is good saw dust when inhaled...so I'm saying that well lets say you compile 500 pages of wood. It might go like this.

Oak ...toxicity, non toxic*
Rosewood toxicity, toxic

At the bottom of each page, *= always use proper safety precautions when breathing in foreign matter, regardless where it comes from.

OR ! Maybe I just get to carried away in my thinking about things.:)

I appreciate your input that's why I dedicated the chart to the members, because is by the members. I am going to look into the statement to cover every body. However before I add anything to the chart I asked the contributing member if I can add it in so they know what they have added is going to be shown to the other members. I just don't publish it if they are not comfortable with it. if you check the chart there are both sides of the coin in the answers Pros and cons., so this is just telling the member that this chart is just the experience of a fellow turner not a fact sheet. They can go to the other sites to get the more elaborated info.

I kind of agree with the above. I gave a close friend some walnut boards he wanted to do some scroll saw work with. When he got home his son helped him carry the wood to the house. When he came back for the second load his arms had already broken out in a rash where the wood contacted him. I am guessing if he had inhaled the dust it would likely have killed him before they could get help.

I really don't want to get involved in another thread on here with people arguing, but I really feel like I need to say something.

I understand that you feel like you are being jumped on, but the posts you make with sly comments about picture usage etc., don't help anything. If anything, it is passive aggressive and it serves no purpose other than leading to more animosity.

Now, there are a lot of members on this forum, and I don't think most of them would say they are constantly being attacked or jumped on. If you feel this is happening to you, maybe it is time to take a step back and try to figure out why that is. Perhaps a look inward would be more helpful than placing the blame elsewhere.

Now, I'm not trying to attack you, just trying to give you another perspective on the situation.

It would be interesting to have a website set up where you list all the woods and the people come in and update it for you, so you simply moderate what is posted so it doesn't get silly. Similar to what Wickipedia does already, but just for wood. Then you can have polls for certain things, like woods that are peoples favorite, and you can actually poll things like allergic reactions to woods, so that you can get a more accurate reading on how many people react to certain woods. I have no idea how you'd program stuff like that into the site. You would also be able to have testimonials below as to how people like the wood and what not, and if you do not allow sources for where people got their wood, then you have a less bias opinion.

I don't know...I applaud your efforts regardless what you do Phil. It's a ton of work no matter how you approach it.

Here's a thought - this could be done in the wiki part of this site....

Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like you're trying to make a chart that identifies wood along with it's charaturistics. Have you checked out these two sites and many others??

www.HobbitHouseInc.com
or
http://www.wood-database.com/wood-articles/wood-allergies-and-toxicity

It seems many others have already compiled lists so I'm guessing if you had more to add to what is already there they would consider the information if you contacted them.
Marla, that's not the case. You welcome to read the chart then you'll know the purpose of it. I know that you've been busy, but go check it out it will hlep you.

Thank you for the consult and the diagnosis. Passive aggressive! Wow I make sure that I ask my Dr. about that since you are out of my network in another town.

I didn't know there was a Wiki section until it was mentioned. I too have no idea how to use it.
jeff, i tried it already it's not that easy to figure out how to manouver within it, and it tokme a long time to just find the wood section. Randy and I suupposed to get together (somehow) so he can help me to load it on to the Wiki. but thw whole thing is that no one is obligated to making any input. I am jsut hoping( again hoping) that all that downloads tht I have form the Box.net will encourage poeple to put into it as well instead of waiting for someone to prepare it for them. it's already taking me a goos while to retype everything and I haven't got that much hlep for the contributors to follow the format so i can just sut and paste. But, at least no one can say I didn't help the cause.
Oh, well just like anything esle there is going to be lots of opposition. But, that's the American Spirit. At the end the good deed will prevail.

You know what, Philip, you can make all the snide remarks you want. I made my post to try and help. You can do with that what you wish.

Hope you got to say what was bugging you. Thank you and hope you have a better day for the rest of the day, and bless you. Your point was proved. You do not have to answer this since you think I make snide remark. there are other posts that would be more interesting to your taste.

Phillip, Are you really about to run another person off of one of your threads? Geesh...
