Because of the size of the project and the money involved it took almost 4 weeks to finally get a signed contract.

I am doing a limited edition fountain pen based on the statesman called the Founding Fathers for the National Constitution Center here in Philadelphia, PA. The pens will be one sale at their museum store starting June 1st. The pen will retail for $650.00. Stylus is running a small article in their June/July issue.

Ken Nelson has been a great help with the engraving of the pen and box. There will be 1,787 pens issued. This is the year to Constitution was signed. Both Ed and Charles have been a great help in supplying the alternative Ivory in such short notice.

This is what the proto-type looked liked

There has been a couple of changes not so-much in the engraving but in support documents. I used acryic paint for the color fill and a clear coat to seal the paint. Then back on the lathe and a final polishing with 4,000 thru 12,000 mm to smooth out the clear coat.

The Pen comes with background history of the founding father, various support documents an engraved presentation box and a bottle of Private Reserve ink.

It's going to be one a crazy summer. I am now working on another project for a different organization which I hope will be complete in the fall.

We also had to copyright the project. The images and background information are public domain but on the advise of my lawyer he wanted the project to be copyrighted. That in itself was an ordeal.

I hope so too. This project will be for all of the founding fathers. What really interest is what you can find at the National Archives & Records Administration.
This project Started in January and they will be taking delivery May25th.

That is one helluva contract. Congrats! What's even more impressive is that you were able to get all the materials and turn 1787 pens in 4 months. WOW!

I wish I could turn all 1787 pens in four months. This will be a two year project. Right now we are looking at 900 pens/year.

WOW, 900 pens a year??
That's 75 pens a month, or 17.3 pens a week. Or 2.46 pens a day with no days off. That's a lot work.. Good luck to you.. Congrats..

Allen, that is one sweet deal.It reminds us what can be done with the proper ground work and attention to detail you are to be congratulated on your hard work not only turning 1787 pens over the next 2 years but the months of getting this to work for you.

GratZ on the contract, I wish you the best of luck in your turnings. Do us a favor and take a picture of your tools before and after. I just have a vision of a brand new #2 pencil and one that has been sharpened to about 1" from the eraser.

I have something in the works right now. The proto-type will be done this summer. Hopefully we will have the job by the First of next year.

Thanks everyone. Anthony thanks worked with Nancy at Stylus to get that shot. Stylus has been very supportive of this project. One of our local papers pickup on the project from one of the directors at the National Constitution Center. They want to do a article so that it will run before Fathers Day.
