Okay, folks there will be only ONE round of voting for this contest. You may vote for up to 3 pens. Lastly, Thank you for taking the time to vote.
PEN 1
The blank was made with maple that was harvested locally. I wanted to try a 'ghost' Celtic knot so it was made with maple from the same piece of wood. A double knot was put in the center then a single knot on each side of it for symmetry.
PEN 2
Chrome Slimline, blank self-cast using Fred Wisson mold. Two color pour, Grey (white and black mica powder) and Navy (blue and black mica powder). Sanded to 12,000 and buffed w/White Diamond.
PEN 3
Legacy slimline in gold. Wood is macadamia but looked to me like a kin of sorts. Finished with CA and wet sanded to 12000.
PEN 4
Himalayan Salt cast in resin
Finished in CA
Slimline Gun Metal kit
Just started turning pens last month and this is trying new things.
PEN 5
This is a Rizheng Streamline in Copper with a Brooks blank. In deciding whether to enter this contest, I answered yes to most of the qualifying questions (didn't understand the one about California even though I'm from there). Put together 5 potential blanks and managed to glue my fingers to only two of them (oops 1). After fabricating a custom tool to cut the grooves, it was decided to fill them with a contrasting colored epoxy before turning to final dimension. Problem was, the epoxy takes 21 days to air dry (oops 2). Since I just started these pens yesterday, I elected to dry the epoxy by the alternate method... 30 minutes in an oven at 325 degrees F. Unfortunately, besides curing the epoxy, it melted the first blank (oops 3). The smell in the kitchen also made my wife very angry and took most of the afternoon to dissipate (oops 4). Four "oops" to produce one pen. I think I'm entitled to enter this contest. Thanks for looking!
