Over in this topic, near this post we talked about ways to improve the way we organize the vast amount of information we have at the site. I asked for some volunteers to work on this and we got a few.

So, I've chartered the "Content Team" and I've asked Scott (Mudder) to head it up. Also on the team are Gary (GaryMGg), Jerry (Jerryconn), and Tracy (ctwxlvr). Scott may seek additional members, but I'll let him discuss that. He and the others might be posting polls, starting topics, and contacting some of you individually to get ideas of how we can better organize this site to fulfill our #1 mission of education.

Just to get the creative juices flowing, I threw out the following ideas to Scott and the team.

- Identify subjects which need tutorials and articles and find ways to motivate people to write.

- Develop a series of FAQs that pull together our own content and provide good pointers to outside resources.

- Establish a good set of "tips & tricks". Sort of along the lines of a FAQ, but more like mini articles.

- Develop Tool Reviews. I don't know about you, but I love reading tool and kit reviews. I'd like to buy tools, kits, equipment, etc., have people review them, then raffle them off.

- Start producing FUN content. Podcasts, "video visits", blogs, etc. I'm open to almost anything that is fun and informative.

I'm really excited about this, and I hope you'll give Scott all the support he needs to make it a success.

Jeff,

I wish can volunteer but I cannot commit definite time right now. If there are things that are not time sensitive, I am willing to help if I can.

That said, looks like you have a great team already. [8D]

Re: tool review, I think we can actually solicit manufacturers for the tools to be donated then used for the review as you suggested. Down side is, favorable review might be questioned by some as influenced by the donor (even if it is not).

Dario,
...solicit manufacturers for the tools to be donated then used for the review as you suggested. Down side is, favorable review might be questioned by some as influenced by the donor.
There's an easy fix to that potential issue:
We make the reviewed tool part of a donation for a raffle when the review is completed. So, if I review a new mini-lathe or turning chisel, I don't get to keep it!
I'm not going to be influenced one way or the other.
[:D]
New pen kits could be more difficult so we give those up as donations to worthy causes such as the Freedom Pen or St. Jude's fund-raiser or a chartible recipient selected by the donating company.

Yeah, but we know what you're like Gary...you'd keep "forgetting" to ship that new mini-lathe to the winner!

(kidding)

Jeff,
Like Dario, I'm a little backed up with work and personal life stuff, but I'd be happy to help if there's stuff that's not as time sensitive.

Jeff, I hope this works out, honestly. I would like to be a tool reviewer, but I cannot say I would willingly give up any tools that I received.[:D] Actually the last time I tried to do that I got my face slapped and my a.. kicked. And that's is a real shop tool I'm talking about, too![V] So I'm just going to wish you well.

Me forget to <s>keep</s> return, forward, or ship that new mini-what?!?!? Hmmmmmmm? Who, me?!?!? Never! [:0] [}:)][;)]

Hey, it was worth a try. [8D] [:p]

Hi Jeff!

What a great idea! I would especially like to encourage the development of the "Fun Content". I've never seen a pod-cast, but I'd be willing to learn if there was something fun to see from my friends at IAP!

I'll get to work on an article or two.

Scott.
