Does anyone know if it is possible to change the standard threaded tailstock on a Jet mini to a cone style tailstock? where to get? Manual says it's a morse #2--but it is an inside threaded sliding rod--not a morse taper type hole. suggestions?

I think you should post a picture. All of the Jet mini's I have ever seen are MT2. Is it possible that you unscrewed the live center head and the MT2 male end is still stuck in the tail stock?

Doug: The JET mini definitely has a MT#2. What you have done is remove the entire live center "AND" the spindle from the tailstock. It is the spindle that has the thread that you see. Put the spindle back in the tailstock and turn the handle clockwise drawing the spindle back into the tailstock. When the spindle is fully back in the tailstock you will feel the handle stop turning. Twist it about another 1/4 turn.....it will require some significant force...,..and the live center and its shaft(the taper) will pop out of the front end of the spindle.

You can buy a 60° live center from www.littlemachineshop.com for about $21 including shipping. "DO NOT" get the heavy duty one!!! It will give you trouble as it is designed to be used in big engine lathes. The standard duty center(stock #1189) will be just fine.

I will try it--and it sounds logical--Guess I was trying to make it harder than it should have been--That's usually the way it rolls around here. Thanks, Vick and Randy.

Randy,
I just checked for the 1189 center and they are on Back Order... Presently priced at $12.95. Will they honor that price when they come in??? I did ask to be notified via email when they come in. Thanks for the info.
