I bought a GPSr today and installed the software in my computer. When I try to open it I get the dreaded red "X" and "cannot create a direct X device. I then downloaded direct X-9 and installed it but the same thing happened. I'm using windows XP with SP-3. I would really appreciate some help. I know some of you computer geeks can tell me what to do. Thanks, Tom

I assume you are trying to install on a laptop? Which GPS?

Did you go to the makers website and download any current updates for your model?

DirectX is a video overlay not a device or driver.

Try shutting off the computer, unplugging from the USB Port you are currently using. Then try another USB port 'after' you power the computer back on. You may have to switch ports with another used port. In that case wait until the other device is picked up on the port your antenna WAS ON. One-at-a-time.

No, I'm installing it on a PC, and it is a Triton 400 GPSr. I did go to the web site and I had all the current updates.. Thanks Tom

Gary, yes I do.

RE: Triton 400

Magellan website shows software version 1.52
which notes: improved overall system performance, including multimedia, translation, and map display

this one you may have installed??? Not SUre... Did you also install??? VantagePoint desktop software??

version 1.52 Updated GPS Journal, and several other application fixes.

Download both and/or run each one, once again. If either asks to reboot after installation >click NO !!!!

run both together then reboot.'Now unplug the GPS once you are booting back up'.

Once you are completely into Windows you can then plug the GPS back in, wait for the windows device recognition sound. Ka-dunk

Lauch your desktop software and look for your unit.

Another question,

Are you using the USB port on a legacy USB add-on card (ie. a PCI plug in USB card) if so you may be using a USB1.1 port) if you are, then try finding / using an onboard rear panel USB2.0 port.
