I'm working on an index for the articles in the IAP library. I think I have the index pretty well under control; but do need some help with one area.

I need some help from someone who has a fast computer and Internet connection.....which I do not. Would someone please look at the listings below and confirm that the hyperlinks work and take you where they say they are going? It takes so long for those things to load on my computer that I don't want to mess with it.

I'll post the complete index after we vet these few video links.

Thanks in advance.

The links opened up to the associated video correctly.

One thing I noticed was when I clicked on the link, an IE window opened then the video,
is that normal..??

Randy.... Its seems to be working in IE, it opens into another IE window and the video starts. But..... I use Firefox, and does not work at all. When it finally opens all that comes up is a bunch of weird symbols and it also forces the pages into "Not Responding" before the page finally opens. I tried several of the links and the all did the same thing.

Should have tried this first before I posted,
Firefox still locks up when I try to open any of those links.

I use a Mac. I found that the videos work fine in Safari. I usually use Firefox. It works OK IF I right click and save the linked file. If I simply click on the link it tries to display the file in the browser window and looks Firefox up for a whule.

The links posted are all to WMV files. In the library, there are another set of files listed. They are MPEG-1 files. Maybe those will work better for those who are having trouble. You can find them under the listing for Ed Davidson's Video Tips in the Library.

Randy - i am all at sea when it comes to computers and the resident computer genius - son#3 - gets a bit short with me so I'm of no help.

Randy,
The MWV files are MS based. And in order to play them, the link would have to open Windows Media Player. And since Firefox isn't a MS product, it can't handle them. The mpeg files would be better, if you have quick time installed on your computer. They will then play inbedded in a new window/tab. I believe there is some code you can include into the URL that will open the media player, but I'm not sure what it is or if this forum core code can handle it. Note: If you right click on the link and save it. You can open the video from there, after you download it to your computer.

This is a link I found last night, and I upgraded my Firefox to the latest version, installed this patch as suggested in this info, but for some reason as yet unknown, Firefox would still not open the .wmv files.

Thanks for that information. I can easily add links to the mpeg files. Let me post another set of links shortly and see if they will wotk for the FF people.

Only Ed posted mpeg as well as mwv files so there is nothingI can do about some of the articles.

I have added the following links to MPEG files for non-Windows users. If they work, that's great. If not, I'm at the limit of what I can do with the information that is available in the Library.

Will one of you FF guys check out these links and see if they work any better? Thanks.

Did any of you Firefox users check to see what default player is set for playing WMV files? If it's set to Windows Media Player, your browser should launch the app.

Thanks for the kind words. I have learned so much here at IAP over the past few years!! No way I could ever repay this site and its members for the incredible education they have provided for me. Not being particularly artistic, I can't write tutorials about new and different designs or methods of pen crafting; but I do hope some of my contributions will prove to be helpful to members here. My biggest project....the Pen Reference Chart.....is nowhere near being complete; but is almost to the point where I am ready to make it available to the general community. I hope it will prove to be of benefit as well.
