My family and I will traveling to see family in Tempe, AZ July 28th - Aug 4. While there we plan on an afternoon up in Sedona too.

If anyone can give me some ideas on where to get some good local woods at good prices that would be immensely helpful.

Thanks

Unfortunately not, Steve. I checked before I posted. Bullhead City is 4 hours away from the closest place I will be. [:(]

Greg, The Arizona Woodturners Association and the Prescott area Woodturners are having a joint meeting on August 4th at Yavapai College in Precott (about 60 miles Southwest of Sedona, 100 miles Northwest of Phoenix) You can find more information on our club website, http://www.azwoodturners.org

If you're staying in town there are a few places to check, Woodworkers Source has a location in North Phoenix and another in Chandler. There's also Woodcraft and Chardler Hardwoods in Chandler, Rockler in Phoenix, and Timber Woodworking Machinery/Timber Hardwoods in Mesa.

oi if we were staying just one more day I would "crash" your meeting. Unfortunately I will be on the road for home.

Thanks for the pointers. Do any of the wood sources carry a better selection of local woods?

For Local woods you're somewhat limited if you're looking at the retail level. The only wood you'd find is probably Mesquite, possibly some Pecan, and some Desert Ironwood (but be prepared to pay for it). I would say that Chandler Hardwoods and Timber Hardwoods are your best shot for reasonably price local woods.

If you're looking for something else drop me an email, I have quite a bit of wood stockpiled. Mesquite, Pecan, Palo Verde, African Sumac, Eucalyptus, Olive, Citrus, Ironwood, and more. Maybe we could work out a trade.
