I have several synthetic blanks, to use a generic term, and was wondering if anyone had tried coloring epoxy instead of painting the tube or blank. CA wouldn't allow time for mixing. A major supplier for fishing rod components has a video on this, offering the coloring material; www.mudhole.com, if anyone is interested.

I assume you are talking about epoxy adhesives when gluing in tubes. I have done this a few times when I thought was needed. I have mentioned this many times that I use System3 T88 epoxy for adhesive. I use it when I segment many times as well and when you do not there are times the yellowish color of the epoxy can show along the glue lines. To avoid that I color the epoxy. The company I use has colored dyes that mix with epoxy very well. I have used black, white, red and blue for various blanks. Works well for me. I know it is hard to tell but that is the whole idea. Wherever there is joints a colored epoxy was used.

I don't think that coloring the epoxy alone will be sufficient. You should still back paint the holes in the blanks. Painting the tubes is okay, but for more translucent materials, you can still see the epoxy between the tube and blank.

When I do this, I use a drop of the same acrylic craft paint that I back paint the hole in the blank with, in the epoxy to color it.

David, makes sense to paint the holes. I had one Slimline that turned waaay down and could see the glue and tube. Got it on my desk or the wife claimed it. Thanks to all.
