I have extensive experience with Alumilite and one thing I have learned is that Alumilite does not like anything to do with water! I would guess food coloring is water based but do not know that for sure. If it is water based it WILL NOT work for sure. You best best is to just buy the dye that Alumilite sells. It is made to be used with Alumilite and will not cause any problems. It is VERY concentrated and takes very little to get good color.

The liquids are all water-based. Don't try them with Alumilite or PR.

The powders, including RIT fabric dyes, are all water-soluble. They will give you goofy results when mixing with solvent-type things. I tried once mixing some "bright green" Rit into acetone. I got "olive-military" green and had some small granules of something sitting at the bottom of the can. When I mixed them with water, I got "bright green" as promised, and nothing sitting on the bottom. Apparently part of the colorant would not dissolve in solvent and I wouldn't try it on PR or Alumilite.

You might want to clarify this a little, Matt. I assume you mean the LIQUID rit fabric dyes when you say "the liquids are all water based". Otherwise, it sound like you are saying any liquid colorant is water based and that is certainly not the case.
