I'm having a problem with trying to cast colored pencil blanks in black resin.
The first batch I did cast I cast in Silmar. The cast was successful but I had problems with some of the pencils and "leads" falling out if I didn't keep hitting the blank with CA. I attributed this to the cast being done using Silmar. Other than this the pens turned out great.
To eliminate the pencils and leads from falling out while turning, I did my next cast using Alumilite slow cure and black Alumilite dye (5 drops of dye per ounce of Alumilite). When I turned the blank, it looked like some of the Alimilite penetrated the wood of the pencils and made them look dirty.
Has anyone had this problem with colored pencils and if so, what did you do to overcome the problem?
