Question to those who do closed end FP or RB pens.

In your opinion, what is the best closed end pen length? (from nib to end, uncapped)

It could be based on feel, visual appeal, balance, etc. so please feel free to note that info.

I know too that different kits may affect this so do mention for which pen kit this proportion works best on.

Thank you.

I make the inside of the pen 3/4 longer than the tube, the tube on a gent is 2 1/8 long, so I say the barrel should be between 3 and 3 1/8 when finished. Feels good to me. I don't like more than a 1/4 of thick wood on the end..I try to get it down to about an 1/8, because a closed end pen has a nice light feel, and too much material on the end causes the pen to be tippy.

I've only made the Baron/Sedona in closed end pens. I make the lower barrel just shy of 3 1/4". In a picture it looks a tad long, but it feels good to write with. I would guess it to be about 1/4" longer than the lower barrel of a regular Baron/Sedona but obviously a lot shorter than a regular Baron/Sedona that is posted.

How could there be a BEST pen length? All the capped pens are different lengths..need 2 7/8 drilled to accomodate the refill (on a baron) and whatever length you feel looks good..it's art, not technical..One of my pet peeves is the short little writing length of the rollers & Fountains...I started doing closed ends so I could have a longer writing end..just go with a few and you will find a length you like for the blank you use
