A friend asked me to make his mother a pen this past week. only string is she wants a click pen. I said sure, but said i had to find a kit to work with. I usually order my kits, but thought I'd just go to the local Woodcraft store to get it done quick. when I got there I was shocked at the junk they had for click type pens. the fitting were shotty and the mechanism didn't really work well. this isn't a rant about the store, but the quality of the kits. is there a kit that will stand in the same league as a Statesman, Jr gent, Jr emperor? I usually try and maker a better quality pen because I feel my name is attached to it. what do you do if your customer says CLICK ME ?

The only kits I will use are the slimline pro from PSI or resellers and the Long click from Aaron (Lau Lau woods) here on the forum . Those are the only two I've had any luck with and even those are just ok .
When I need a click pen I make one with click mechanisms from Richard Greenwald but you have to be able to build your own pen around them .

I haven't made any Sierra clicks. Just curious do they use the same bushings as the Sierra?

I've only made one style of click pen and I think it was from CSUSA.... it the style where the entire top half of the pen clicks down... I was trying to look it up for this post, but didn't find it right away... I have one made from deer antler that I've used for about 6 or 7 years and still works great. Some of the others I made didn't do so well, but think it was more me than the kit... the tolerances for the lower barrel has to be right or the click doesn't work... since the upper cap actually slides over the lower barrel during the click process, if you are off (and I think I was) on the lower barrel size, the pieces will bind as you click.

good luck so far with the Sierra click (yes, same bushings, longer tube) and the Long Click from Aaron (best feeling mechanism, nice and solid).
