Hi guys!

This is my first post here, and I'm a little new at wood turning in general... but here goes:

A week or so ago, I decided to turn a bunch of blanks to compare various finishing products and techniques, and to learn how to use them. So far, I've tried polyurethane, boiled linseed oil, ca glue, BLO + CA glue, spray lacquer, and most recently, clear oil paint.

The clear alkyd paint actually went on pretty smooth after I filled the grain with some paint/sawdust slurry, and the result is a nice, even, glossy finish. So I was wondering, why do pen turners not use this method? It took less than 5 minutes of labor to finish using clear paint! Maybe durability is a concern?
