It is with regret that I had to file a claim against Bethlehem Olive Wood for non-shipment of an order through pay pal. I have ordered many blanks through them, and tried several times to contact them via e-mail and phone, but to no avail. Others here have stated that it is taking longer than before to receive their orders. Perhaps, like many, times are hard and they cant ship product.
Just a heads up for anyone considering a purchase through BOW.

If I recall correctly, the BOW exporters are a couple named Gasan. They have (had?) and excellent reputation for honesty and efficiency. But, sometime back, they had to move out of Israel because of the political situation there. Woodturninz, and maybe others, have been buying in quantity from them. As long as supplies last here, now might be the time to buy. This is something that should concern us all. There are other olive woods. But there is no substitute for that which comes from the Holy Land.

I ordered from them in April and also could not contact them and didn't receive my order. I finally filed a paypal complaint and got a refund on my money. Just today I received my order by registered mail and finally a e-mail from Gasan asking me to resend them money. Now that I have my order, I will send them money by paypal, but will not order from them any more. I have ordered several times before and not had any problems. I know these people are honest and must be having problems, but if they would just communicate with customers and keep people informed and be truthful when they tell you when the order is shipped, I would have no problem.

It's a shame, they have had some great BOW in the past, I've only dealt twice with them but that was close to a year ago, Thanks for the heads up, but it is good to know they are still alive, That's a challenge in that part of the world.:):)

Glenn: I have seen recently that BOWS has a 24/7 HELPLINE listed on their web site. I wonder if you were aware of it and if you had tried to use it to make contact with the company?

First I've heard of this Frank. With all of the discussions, recently, about this company, I'm surprised this information had not been mentioned previously.

Are you satisfied that your source of information is credible and that the information is accurate/

The source(s) are right here and TPS. The Gasans have been discussed for years. All has been positive until recently.

I placed an order in March. Still no product! I have tried eMail, there Website support, and phone with no reply's at all. Hopefully, since an April order just arrived, they are working backwards through the backlog and I am getting to the top of their list! Not holding my breath.

Just to eliminate any confusion, the name of the folks we are discussing here are:

Ghasan Darwesh
and Diane Darwesh

Just for fun, I did a reveres telephone search on the address that is listed on their web site for their facility in Brownwood, Texas. Interestingly, that street address has been revised recently so I don't know if either of the locations is an active BOWS facility.

Phone numbers and names of individuals were listed for both street addresses. Whether those names and numbers are current, correct, or associated with BOWS, I have no idea.

If anyone is interested in having the information, email me. It is probably not appropriate to post it publicly since these folks may not be associated with BOWS.

A few weeks ago I went to BOW's website and called the toll free number and got a weird recording so I called the local number listed on the web site and a gentleman answered and I asked him if the company was still in business and he replied that is was and I could order from him and he would send me a paypal invoice. I declined to order at that time. So I posed a thread on the subject informing all that the company could be reached. But a war of words between members ended up in the thread being locked. So call the local number and you may get through.

Randy, I am out of town and don't have the package with me. When I picked it up, I did notice that it was from Isreal, but did not notice anything else. I did think it strange that it was registered mail and I had to sign for it. Never had to do this before.

Read the link Randy provided. Here it is again: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/penturners/message/94486 This message exlains what is happening with Gashan and his wife. Life does get in the way of our other "stuff" ... even 8in the way of a business at times.

Email Gashan at the email address he gave in the above message. These people are not crooks. They have wonderful wood and the orders will be sent as soon as they can get them out.

Or, order your olivewood from any of our suppliers who sell it. BOW is the same whether it come straight from Israel or through someone else.

Do a good turn daily!
Don

Thanks for the link, Woodturningz has some interesting wood. My problem is that I like larger blanks, and most dealers only handle 3/4 BOW. My options seem to be waiting three months or turning very carefully.

Does anyone know a reliable (and timely) source for 1" blanks (or even slabs)?
