It is with regret that I was unable to strike a deal with the Chinese pen manufactuer to manufacture a kit similar to the Jr. Statesman. Although it looked promising at the start, my Asian partner who just returned from China was not able to convince them for my proposed venture.

Dan (Furlano) I'm sorry to say that they were not interested in selling holder/nibs for fountain pens. Perhaps you will have more success with another. I tried to assist but...

Looks like we will continue to source from our existing sources. Perhaps some else here at IAP will share their success if they have made any progress.

Sorry to have let some members down but I can assure you that it was not from a lack of trying. I will continue to investigate new pen sourcing ventures with other potential Asian suppliers and will keep everyone posted with updates.

Never say "Never", Peter!!!

Don't be surprised if they contact you in the next few weeks with another "proposal".

Hang tough and get what YOU need!!

Jack sent me an email asking about the parts. I have not responded but basically I found it easier to work with a US company. China is great if you have very high volumes and a completely speced product otherwise it is not worth the effort for either party.

Considering the price we charge for our products--- fair prices considering the labor I say---- I believe we should only demand the BEST in quality from our pen kits, and I have to say that I am dismally displeased with the quality of kits I have been getting lately.

I have always had problems with several Berea kits---- the double-twist euro and the American style, and everyone gripes about the gritty threads of the Euro/american rollers and fp's.

Lately I have had nearly NOTHING but TROUBLE with rhodium and gold Ti platings from CSA--- whom I am currently in some form of dialogue with trying to find out the problem---- their rhodium often develops an insane amount of pitting, and some of their gold ti has done this as well. Not all, but about half of the Rhodium I have gotten from them has pitted (pens I have sold and pens I have kept to use myself... including an Imperial[:(!]).
This isn't the first time we have heard of plating problems.

I guess the big question is, can an American company produce pen kits at a reasonable price? Why do we have to settle for unknowns with chinese junk. CSA seems to have to go through heck and high water to find out about why their platings are corroding. If they purchased from a good ol' US of A company, all it would take is a phone call or email.

I personally think a high-end pen kit supplier that sells Made in America kits might well find a comfy niche. I currently only sell the best platings and kit styles (never, ever 24K) and wouldn't mind a few dollars more for an American Made product that is more robust and consistent.

This is startling news. Like you, I only use durable platings. e.g. Tn and Rhodium and 10K when Tn isn't offered.

Please keep us informed on what the people at CS tell you about this issue. I can only guess they got labeling incorrect from China. And/or the China people cheated and delibertely mislabeled.
Personally, I have never encountered wear or pitting problems with Tn or Rhodium.

I am not the only one, I posted about this a few weeks ago with a few responces and the folks at CSA also mentioned that they had a few people report the same problem, but mostly with the nib-end (ie, the metal part you hold to write with). I have had some nib-end parts pit, but I have several pens where the whole blasted thing just began pitting. I am using a Gold Ti Jr Gent right now that I made a month ago that is pitting[:(!][:(!][:(!]

I know this isn't my hand crud chemistry, I can use Berea's ti gold and platinum with nary a problem.
