LOML will be visiting Chicago for the week of the 12th, from monday thru thursday. What do you recommend that she do while she is up there? She's already been there once and went to the Willis Tower.
I haven't been there in a couple decades, but IIRC the waterfront area is good for an evening's stroll and some shopping, right? What else?

One thing she will be doing is thanking you guys for taking 2 out of 3 from the Detroit Tigers and helping out my Twins!

My reccomendations for a visit to Chicago:

1. Berghoff on State and Adams - great German cuisine and the best draft root beer anywhere
2. Frontera Grill - Rick Bayless' gourmet restaraunt at budget prices
3. Century Pens - on LaSalle street where they filmed the Dark Knight scene with the bus airborne
4. Art Institute - some of the finest art work in the world
5. Field Museum - fantastic museum of natural history - see Sue the Tyranosaurus Rex on the first floor.
6. Navy Pier - Good food, lots of activity
7. Legends - Budy Guy's club on the near south side home to the real legends of blues
8. Manny's on Roosevelt and Jefferson - best corned beef sandwich west of New York
9. Gino's East - genuine Chicago deep dish pizza
10. China Town - great food

Thanks Dan, I read her the list and she'll try the Navy Pier probably, and Frontera definitely (since it's on the company dime).

I want her to do some fun shopping also. Maybe a fashion area?

Any other recommendations folks??

Lots of shopping on Michigan Ave. ("Magnificent Mile") I don't care a lot for Navy Pier. It's a lot like a State Fair around there. If the weather is nice, it can be a pleasant walk outside, but I've been there on a weekend when it was wall to wall kids. My favorite event is an architectural boat tour on the Chicago River, but it may be too cold for that. Here's a link to the Michigan Ave. stores. http://www.chicagotraveler.com/chicago_magnificent_mile_shopping_map.htm

and a link to the cruise;

It's been a long time since I've been here, but still sounds good;

She has to get by Watertower Place (mall). For 2 reasons. Frango Mints and Fannie May Trinidads. OH MY!
I really like the museum of Science and Industry as well as the planetarium.

Fannie May??? Why go to Chicago for that? We have one right here. :tongue::biggrin:

The magnificent mile has magnificent prices. My wife dragged me into a store and showed me a purse for the low price of $6,000.00. :eek: The street performers are pretty cool though.
On Thursday it used to be free to get in the science and industry museum, not sure if it still is.

Fanny May store, eh? THat could be dangerous. They've sent us a package every 3 months or the past 14 years. Not all my wife's fault either. I get 1/2 lb of the vanilla buttercreams with every order!

Good suggestions guys! The wife is making her list.

Dozer, $6,000 for a purse, eh? Sounds about right to hold her $130 makeup case and $200 custom pen. :rolleyes:
