Let's show our age and see how many of us remember the Tarzan movies.

My old Granddad (born in 1888) took a liking to the Tarzan movies when they came out in the 30's, and 20 years later, introduced my brother and I to the reruns. He was a fan of Johnny Sheffield (who played 'Boy'), and said often, "he's a real smart little bugger"...!

Hmmm

I saw the original two reel version of Tarzan the Ape Man with Tarzan played by Johnny Weissmuller but not when they 1st came out as I wasn't born until 1937. I did see some of the 1940's Tarzan movies when they were released or shortly thereafter. Interestingly when Weissmuller was 40 he was filmed in a newsreel where he had just swam the 100 withing 1 second of the time that was the world record when he swam it.

Andy, you say watching football will prolong life and Cheeta is proof. Maybe, just maybe watching football on T.V. will turn you into a chimpanzee and Cheeta is proof of that.

Only Two

Were all of the Tarzan actors Olympic swimming medalists, or just Buster Crab and Johnny Wiesmueller?
Just those two were Olympic Swimmers but two others. Herman Brix and Glen Morris, were olympic medalists in other sports. Amazing how many actors have played Tarzan - the first Tarzan movie was a silent film made in 1918. Buster Crab only made one Tarzan movie - he was much more known as Flash Gordon (Remember the Evil Ming on the Planet of Mongo?)

I was born in1948 and remember the Tarzan movies well, we did not get a television untill 1956 and watched them many times.

On another note, and this really makes me feel old, who remembers sitting in front of the Radio on Friday nite listening to the program called " The Screeching Door" ?? or listening to the Lone Ranger on the radio??

Maybe you are right, Ben! I feel like a chimp that will believe anything TV tells me. The Cheeta story turns out to be false! I THOUGHT 80 was really old, even for a football watching chimp:biggrin:

I'm only seventy and I never saw a TV till I was 13 and it only had snow on the screen. One day someone heard a voice-no picture. Boy that was the talk of the town, the damm TV is starting to talk. We got a phone when I was about 10 years old and I remember the Tarzan movies. In a little town the Tarzan movies played for about two weeks. When I became 12 they went from 15 cents to 25 cents. We couldn't go every night then so we had to go every other night. Life was good!
