The Bash has slowed me down a lot, as has the summer heat, but I finally got this finished yesterday.

The green blank was rough turned 12 months ago and has been sitting in a box of shavings ever since. All I had to do was finish it off.

The wood is Camphor Laurel, trouble is I didn't think much about that at first, but had to really seal the aroma from contaminating the bikkies. So lots of coats of sanding sealer and a matt finish from OOOO steel wool directly onto the sanding sealer. Just like a friction polish. The result is a beautiful smooth finish.

The platter is 15.5in x 2.5in, and I think the Ceramic tile is a good match.

C & C welcome, and thanks for looking.

Bob.

Wow Bob,

Magnificent piece, the mosaic and the finish, sets it perfectly.

Who would tell that blank had so much "character"...???:biggrin:

Keep up the good work...!

Cheers
George

I must be mentally projecting something, because my brain processed "Cheese and bikini platter." We'll take some of your summer heat, too.

Nice work, Bob.

Looks great. I had to search to find out what a bikkie is. I initially thought it might be something you caught in the ocean or found crawling around in the desert. I was a little disappointed to find out it's some kind of cookie (or cracker?).

Whatever they are, it looks like a nice way to serve them.:)

Ed

Who imagines that you don't throw bikkies on the barbie and is a little disappointed about that........

Looks great. I made several similar platters for Christmas gifts last year. Where did you get the insert? I could only find marble ones.

OOPS
I forgot you guys don't know what a bikkie is. You got it, it's a biscuit or a cracker.

The tile came from Timbecon or Carbatec (Wood Working Retailers) in West. Aust.

I like the Bikini idea!!!

Cheers,
Bob.
