Actually it is nothing exciting yet the reality of it being saddening. Seems on the the penturning boards I hang out on, the threads started today about Veterans Day have received little response and the views compared to other threads are about as low.

Food for thought!

I'd have responded sooner, but I spent most of the day at Woodcraft turning pens for the Freedom Pen Project. Eileen MacKrell was there too! (USN 1969-1971)

I'm not sure I know what threads you are referring to. Columbus, OH celebrated Veteran's Day with a parade on thursday past. I had work that needed to get out so didn't make it for the event. I did my karaoke show last night where we called attention to miltary veterans as well as members of the firefighting and law enforcement communities for their answering a universal call to "protect and serve". Then, of course, we paid tribute to our Marine comrades on the Corps' birthday.

Personally, I don't care much about the ceremonies and formal tributes but greatly appreciate the one-on-one respect I get from a wide variety of people when they discover I've served in the military. (USNR 1973-1995 (20 years on active duty)).

Maybe the people that would respond or view were at memorials or celebrations honoring the Veterans. I was at the Freedome Pens in Va Beach with at least 4 other IAP members.

I spent the afternoon turning freedom pens also. We had a nice time.

Yeah, I was also at the Freedom Pen Turn-a-Thon... Cranked out an even dozen and taught two new turners (Husband and wife who had NEVER touched a lathe before) to turn a pen and help another new turner with CA/BLO finish abd better sanding techniques. Teaching the other turners was great fun. With as much as I have learned from all of you and the local turners I have met here in the DFW area, it was great to be ale to pay it forward, so to speak. Without all of you, I wouldn't be able to accomplish what I can.

To all of the Veterens on this forum, AND your brothers and sisters at arms,
THANK YOU and God Bless You!!!
We owe you our deepest gratitude, and you have mine!!
