Cedar

Several weeks ago I saw here (I think) a discussion about cedar and any demand or desirability there might be for it. If you commented then, would you offer your opinion again? Tnks all....

Smells wonderful, looks awesome but man is it soft.

I like it, but it makes a light pen. Use a CA finish and it will have a durable surface.

Beautiful finished pen. As stated, light weight but CA does the work. One main thing to remember, LOW temp when sanding! Even old seasoned wood WILL crack if over heated. Moreso than any hard wood. I love it when I can get a knot in the middle, really shines.

Cedar looks great in the beginning but looses its color and dulls quicker than most woods Ive used.

Use it a lot and it sells well to a local cigar store. Make sure you give it a good hard finish or it dings up easily.

I've seen more bowls made from it than pens.

I make alot of bowls from it. In fact I have a whole tree cut up into bowl blanks drying in my shop.
