I'm so exhausted..flying back from Hawaii is worse than going there. With the time change..I left at 6pm their time and got here at noon Michigan time and of course I couldn't sleep on that cramped airplane so I had a 3 hr nap when I got in the house.
Hawaii is very nice and the weather is outstanding with pretty much constant 80's and low humidity. They say it's humid, but they have obviously not ever been here. I do worry though that the massive amounts of tourists that hit that particular island leave with a major false impression of what America really is. Waikiki is like a whole other country, but when you get out of that tourist trap and into the country side, it's a breath taking island. I totally want to go again and experience one of the other islands.
I went on a shark fishing trip and caught this 9 foot tiger shark. It's about 450-500 lbs. The photo isn't the greatest, but I was not about to bring my expensive camera on the trip and being night time it's tough to photo a shark in the water. Although the experience was really cool, it's also not that great at the same time, because the shark fishing is done with a little pole and a monster reel that is more like a winch than a fishing pole. Even taking the pole off the railing and putting it in a holster..the real fight and fun of catching the monster is rather lost. I would have preferred lighter tackle and a 2-3 hr battle to get him to the boat, instead of just winching him up for 10 minutes.
Couple mornings ago I caught this Moray Eel right off the cement wall of the hotel. Now that's what I call fishing. This Eel is about 3.5 foot long and he is very angry! It took me about 20 minutes to get him out of the rocks and to a beach like spot where I then had to climb down the wall and grab him without letting him take my hand off, and 2 other people helped me get him over the wall to land. I so wish I had a better photo. This photo is off my cell phone. My wife was way up in the room sleeping because it was 6am and If I had called her and got her to come down and take a pic of me with the eel, then I feared the eel would have died while waiting for her, so I set it free. That eel was so fun...one of the best times I ever had catching a fish.
