I need to make some blanks that are not for Pens, these will NOT have a brass tube. The blanks need to be solid and will be drilled into but only from one end. How will I be able to cast different objects without attaching them to anything (like a pen tube). I would like to inbed objects that I have seen other forum members have made ( feathers stamps ).
A good few months ago I received fantastic help from a forum member here in the UK (Skiprat) without his help I would not have got my pressure pot ready to cast. Unfortunatly my Dad was ill and passed away in May and I have not used the pot yet. I now feel it is time to have a go.
So if I can once again ask the forum members to help me with some ideas I will be able to cast my first pressure cast of solid blanks. I need the blanks approx 1" x1" sq.
I thought that I could make a mold from Silicon 1"x1"x6" then I can cut these into six.????

Dermot,

You can absolutely cast a 6"x6"x1" brick and cut it up. But, calculate the kerf of your blade. Your blade kerf is loss but needs to be accounted for. If you want to get 1" square blanks and have 1/8" kerf you need a 6-3/4" wide piece to start with.

I would recommend that you start out casting regular blanks without trinkets in them until you get a feel for what you are doing.

Other than that, read the couple of articles on casting in the library and you can start experimenting.

This is my little step by step photo essay on my last major mold for pen blanks. I started with a layout in Plexiglass that I had lasered, and made some hand holds for moving the mold, mounted the wooden plugs and presto. It is cast in Smooth-on's Mold Max 40, but I think it would be better in Mold Max 60. The springform pan is 1/2" smaller in diameter than the inside of the Pressure Pot. The long flat sides are where the supports are for my shelves. The clay is Kleen Klay, but any sulfer free modelling clay will do, except for silicone modelling clay that is.

The plug/pan can easily be refit for a square/rectangle block mold.
