I have seen people make pens with coins and watch parts. Are they bending the pieces around the tubes and then casting them. It seems like it would be hard to bend a coin. Am I missing something?

With the coins, people usually machine (mill) the coin thickness down by half or two-thirds.

With the watch parts (bigger gears and faces) they bend them carefully to the shape of the pen.

Both comments above are accurate! And it sounds simple... I said "sounds"! There is a reason the great pens look "great." SKILL! It can be learned, and accomplished. But... I doubt I will compose a Symphony like Beethoven or Mozart. Maybe I'll save 50 years of learning and inherent genius and buy a recording.

However... Have FUN, much of the enjoyment is trying to do it ourself (and I am no different).
