I want to try my hand at casting. I want to try w/o a pot first. Can you tell me where I can get silicon pen molds and the best place to get PR. Do I need anything else? I've tried Allumilite years ago and wanted to give PR a shot.

Be sure to keep us informed how the PR casting goes for you. It's something I want to try also so will be following your progress !!

I'm just getting started as well. Got mold-making silicon here:

and PR/MEK-P here:

(I bought the "refill" as I already have gloves/stir sticks/paper cups, etc.)

That's really all you need to get started. The mold stuff is also available at Michael's, if you have one nearby.

Here's my first attempt (no pressure pot, just poured in the PR/MEK-P, no bubbles at all and it turned nicely):

(Hemlock cones from the back yard, with no colorant).

Regards,
Michael

Try PVC pipe in 3/4" lengths at ^" lengths and #10 corks. I found Woodnwhimsies.com to be a good source for PR. He sells the silicone molds and the dye powders in jars or small bags at reasonable prices. You could look on Youtube for Fool4peppers. He has a video of his process using PVC pipe.

Excited to go home and see what I got. I cast several molds yesterday. I cast some ground coffee and coffee bean pens, and I did one blank using pepper and pepper flakes, and finally one coffee and dry cream of wheat. Thanks Turncrazy 43. I watched the videos for Fool3peppers and I was wondering how you got the blanks out of the PVC. That really helped! Cast all of the above in clear without color so we shall see I get!

Went home and had a frustrating night. I used PVC. My silicone molds are being shipped out today! I had a tough time getting the blanks out of the PVC. I used a hammer and rod and tried to hammer it out but it wouldn't budge. Am I missing something?
I finally had to cut into the PVC then the blanks came out. The cream of wheat blank was the only one I could use. Should have casted the coffee with color. But I learned A LOT. Still excited to cast a Steam Punk pen tonight that I made once I get a clue as to how to get the blanks out of the PVC. HELP!!!!!
