when preparing a tube with stamps or paper do you coat the face of the stamp or paper like decoupage to seal it or you do you want to keep the glue off the face of the stamp?

I would use CA, but be sure you let it have time to out-gas, typically 24-48 hours

I paint the tube white so that no brass or dark lines can be seen if the stamp edges aren't perfectly aligned. The only black I wanted to see was the perforation where the stamp was made to tear out. I use medium CA to glue the stamps on the tube and wipe the excess off with a paper towel. I keep the outside, stamp faces, clear of any CA build up as I've gotten "shinny" spots appearing through the clear resin.

Here's the link to the thread for a photo. The images were printed on a high resolution printer and aren't real stamps. But you couldn't tell when the pen was finished.

Hope this helps.

why the glue. ar not the stamps adhesive already or are you guys using cancelled stamps. i have always just glued the stamp to the tube. covered with modge podge and cast is resin after alowing plenty of time, AT LEAST 24 HOURS, TO DRY.

Everybody has their prference, but I use stamps that have already been mailed, so they don't stick without glue. I've found that the elmers glue stick is perfect for gluing them to the tube. Not messy and is easy to work with. I then coat the stamp with 3 or 4 coats of thin CA, and let dry for 2 days or so. Then the easy part of casting.

your funny........then the easy part of casting

Well I spend many nights at the dining table jamming to the radio while i'm glueing everything up. I usually do about 30 at a time. It's a living nightmare compared to the casting part. But atleast I can do it on the dining table and it's the perfect temperature inside the house.

I use tack glue since the stamps don't slide around very much and then cover it with modge podge or go right over the top with one very quick light coat thin CA.

The problem with CA directly on the glue is possible smearing if the ink on the stamp.
This problem occurs on the older style of stamp that look like they are engraved instead of lithiograph? style,
