I have been trying to improve my casting skills. I know I am a long way from some of you folks. I have a few shows coming up over next 2 months and figured I would try something with a Holiday theme. Anyone ever try any similar to these and if so how well do they sell? After I get my confidence level where I want it I will then try some snakes and such. Comments and Critiques are welcome.

Now that didn't take long to copy Mark (jjartwood)

How do the seams look on the wrapping paper? I could see them selling as a novelty but not necessarily bringing in top dollar.

Oh I showed jjartwood before I ever posted a photo of one I made. I doubt mine will ever rise to the caliber of his. It sure is a nice goal to aim for. Some day I will try the feathers and watch parts. I have found I make to many mistakes to go after high $$$ material just yet.

Nicely done Phil! The bottom pic looks as though they are much clearer than the others but it's probably because of the bright colors of the wrapping paper.

I have a pressure pot rig and a mold set up but just haven't gotten around to casting yet. It's high on my list though.

Oh I don't use a pressure pot for these. I figure if i can learn to do it without one first then by the time I fix my broken one I will be able to cast about anything.

I have one that needs a new seal, just have not bought one yet. Maybe one day i will spend the $30 for it.

As for the brighter ones I would venture it the poor ability of the picture taker.

They look good Phil, but how about a pic showing the seams? If you want a honest critique your gonna have to show the side no-one wants to show

As for doing well at shows. I agree with AK. They might do well as a novelty item but I don't see them bringing in high premiums.

Hmm... How about one sierra pen with several barrels for the various holidays? We just need to figure out an easy way to change the barrels other than knocking out the clip assembly and pressing it into the next one That works for us personally but not for customers. Add barrels for birthdays, anniversaries, and other important dates.
Just thinking out loud.
Do a good turn daily!

These look good but as Borooks said seams are hard to hide. But there are ways, keep this in mine. Your eye is attracted to straight lines avoid them when ever possible.

The one there I see the worst and could be easily fixed is the fish. Don't cut it straight carefully cut around the fish. Then if possible cut smaller fish and over lay the seam. Another tick if you can't hide the seam make it part of the design. Maybe cut your paper so the seam wraps like a spiral then put a small strip of ribbon and maybe a bow to hide the seam. When I made snake skin blanks early on I would do a straight cut seam and soon I did not like it. Easy fix don't cut them straight zig zag around the scales and you will never see the seem.

Just some thoughts to pounder.
Good Luck

I saw a guy cut his snakeskins with the zig zag scissors.. That way the scales lined up... Just an idea...

Bruce nailed what I was gonna say also. Try and cut out around some of the images on the prints so the overlap isn't as noticable. They do look good though Phil. Hope they sell well for you!
