I have never casted acrylic with resin before. I have not materials and my dad is looking for me to cast a pen with a logo in it for someone he works with. http://www.exoticblanks.com/instructions/RS Manual.pdf This link has the directions for the Resin Saver Mold systems. If you look at the Comcast Pen that they casted as an example I want to do something like that. I am planning on using the Resin Saver molds. I heard of printing the logo on like a sticky name tag, putting it on a brass tube then casting it in a mold. I am not sure how that will turn out. I need some professional casting help. Suggestions on how to cast the logo in the Acrylic so you can see it after its turned. Please and Thank you.

I will be glad to help. How about tomorrow evening? Phone or email? Facebook messages?

Or read the above article and ask questions. There are several articles in the library. Not trying to brush you off...just don't have time tonight. Good luck.
Do a good turn daily!

I read that article and it shows cool logos and the finished products but it doesn't exactly show how to get there. Private message on the forum would work best for me. Thanks.

Be careful about just sticking a label on a tube and casting. The pr will disolve the glue and the label will float in the resin. Some also have trouble with the ink running. Be sure before you cast that everything is sealed that needs to be. Good Luck it's a lot of fun.

My understanding is to print in high resolution on the transparent Avery labels. Turn as usual, then sand as usual, then clean, place on label. Then a few to several coats of CA.

That is a very interesting way to do it. I will have to look into that to see how i can do that. Thanks.

I would suggest a couple coats of CA before the label and then several after. It will help in making the clear edges of the label more invisible when finished. I use water slide decals and turn the pen to shape so theres no casting over the label, just several layers of CA, but there are several ways to skin a cat. Good luck!

can you be more specific about what type of logo(ie. decal over wood, label over brass tube.)

That's the thing. I have no idea what way I should do it. I want to use clear acrylic and make a logo stand out underneath it. any way possible to accomplish that is ideal.

Clear acrylic????? What do you mean. Are you castin g onto a tube or onto a acrylic blank. One you would cast in resin and the latter you would just add CA to coat over. Either way is acceptable and doable. Need more info.

When I first started doing label pens. I used a acrylic blank, underturned it. Applied the label, then casted it in clear PR. Alot of work but it did the trick. Now I just turn the blank, apply decal and coat with CA.

the example you mention (the Comcast logo) was one of my first
casting attempts. It was fairly simple to do.

I used an Avery shipping label. I used a white tube. I forget if I sealed
it with Modge Podge, CA, acrylic spray.. but whatever it was, let it
dry for at least a day. Then I put it in the mold and poured warmed
resin over it. I think I had warmed the mold, too .. but this was early
on so perhaps I didn't know about that yet. Warm stuff helps speed
up the cure. Warm resin flows like water so it doesn't hold the air
bubbles.
I do remember that this was one of the blanks that taught me that
just because the resin is firm enough to de-mold does NOT mean
that it is ready to turn. It just means it is firm enough to de-mold.
If you turn before the resin is cured, it will pull away from the tube.
You will recognize the separation when air gets between the resin
and the image. The small air pockets might look silvery.
