Hello Folks
I'm wanting to start making some cast blanks but not sure how to do this. Is one of our experts able to point me or the right direction in the way of web sites and/list the step by step process.
Thank you
Kind regards
Mike (New Zealand)

There's plenty of info in the library as well as the forums here. You'll find info on molds, materials, dyes, resins, vacuum vs. pressure casting, and much more...

Welcome from Arkansas!

The library is one of the best places to start. There are also several videos on You Tube showing how to pour.
Here's a good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GCM_MHkbno
But pouring blanks is similar to doing a CA finish in that everyone has their own method.

If I were you, I'd start out with PR (Poly Resin). The one we use most is Silmar 41. It's the least expensive way to start. But it has a strong odor, and you really need some ventilation. And since it's winter where you are right now, you may want to wait till it warms up. You really need an area at least 70 degrees fahreheit or about 22 degrees celsius.

Just understand that when you 1st start pouring, you'll have a few pours that just don't work out. Sometimes you wait to long, and end up with 2 pretty blobs that aren't mixed at all. Other times you may pour too soon, and the colors bleed together. When I started, a really good caster told me it takes about a gallon before you get a feel for the resin. He was right on the money.

Good luck, and when you get stumped, don't hesitate to ask questions.
