...in a standard envelope!!

Well, sometimes.

Four of the refills I mailed (Oct 30) to "free refill" respondents have now returned, to me. Seems the equipment at the USPS ripped them open, so they sent them back to me.

They will go out again, but I really thought they were small enough that there would be no difficulty.

Every day, I learn more about shipping difficulties.

Sorry for the delay to the four people, yours will arrive this week.

yep, it happens every single time. The standard envelope goes through a press and scan system. The pressing keeps the mail flat and at a certain level from the camera that reads the stamp and then stamps the stamp. The refill gets squished and spit right out the envelope. Had it happen to me too! But, you can still send a refill through a standard envelope. You need to have it hand stamped by the person at the post office so that when it goes through the system it doesn't go in with the regular mail envelopes. It will go in a bin with the packages.

I've seen similar issues myself. Alot is now automated at the USPS, and the machines can be unkind. I always reccomend that non-flexible, non-flat items be sandwiched between two or more layers of cardboard taped together to reinforce.

Use either a bubble media mailer or add two lengths of stiff cardboard in the envolope, works great that way and keeps you under the 6oz i think for first class.
