Hey guys. I know alot of you don't know me, but some of you do. I wanted to take a minute and tell you a story. Last Wednesday, my wife went to the ER for kidney stones. This was the forth or fifth time this year. The ER doctor decided to try to figure out what was causing them. He ordered an ultrasound. A large kidney stone appeared along with a large mass about 6" across on her right side. Later that evening, she had the kidney stone removed. On Monday, her OB/Gyn ran several tests on her and all the results pointed to a cyst on her right ovary. He scheduled the surgery for Friday morning. When he opened her up, he found a football sized tumor that weighed over 9 pounds. It was attached to her ovaries, uterus, bladder, ureters, colon and abdomenal wall. As he removed the tumor, everything it had touched had a tumor growing on it. Luckily it was growing on the membranes surrounding the organs and hadn't invaded them yet, except for her colon. He easily removed the tumors from the membranes, but he had to perform a complete hysterectomy and removed a little over half of her colon. He was able to reattach the ends so it would still work. They feel 100% positive they removed all of the tumors. The doctor told me , with tears running down his face, he never in a million years thought he would tell me my 29 year old wife had cancer. He was still in shock, as we were. A simple 1 hour surgery turned into a 6 and a half hour surgery. We came in for a kidney stone, not cancer. The cancer is what caused the kidney stones. It was wrapped around the ureter and caused the kidney to back up. Her doctor still doesn't understand why, with so much cancer, she showed zero signs of having it. This has all developed and grown in the past year. Everything looked normal a year ago during her last c-section. Her doctor also told me, if it hadn't been for the kidney stone, by the time she showed the first sign of cancer, all they would have been able to do is make her comfortable. Guys make your wives get checked. This hit us like a bomb.

Thanks for listening,
Brian.

So sorry to hear about the cancer. You'll both be in my prayers. And I second the warning that women, and men get checked regularly!

I am so very sorry for the sad news. Know that you and your family are in our prayers. Cancer runs VERY high in our family and all the women get regular ultra sounds to check for tumors. But thanks for the reminder for those that don't think about it!
Bless you and yours.

Our prayers are with you as she recovers from the surgery and you take care of her. My prayer is for you both to have physical, mental and spiritual strength during these difficult days.

Brian, I know how you feel. Two years ago my wife went in for her yearly mamogram and bamb the cancer gremlin hit us. Not just in one breast but both. The Drs. said the only hope was surgery and removal of both breast. Please Guys and Gals make sure you get yearly check ups..We were lucky and caught it in time but if not for her check up the Drs. said it would have spread most likely throught out her body.
Brian you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

My prayers are with you and your wife. My wife passed away from lung cancer 22 months ago. Have the doctors told you what kind of cancer? What kind of follow up treatment? Jesus is with me otherwise it would be unbearable. Stay strong! Fred

My wife was 26 when she had a full hysterectomy due to cancer. She is now 46 and started her new job as a special education teacher this past week. There is hope for a full recovery. God be with you!

Brian,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. My wife was just declared cancer free this week. We were fortunate, the radiation did the trick and no surgery was necessary. We wish you all the best and hope for a speedy recovery.

Thanks Guys. I appreciate the prayers and thoughts. This is going to be a long hard battle and recovery. We will get through it.

Fred, the doctors won't know for sure until the test results come back monday morning. They are pretty sure it is ovarian, but not exactly sure what type yet. She will have to go through some form of chemotherapy, but we're not sure what type and to what extent. They are positive they were able to remove all of it, and it should make the next step somewhat easier for her.

Thanks again guys,

Brian.

Brian - sorry to hear about this. I will certainly add this to our family's prayer list. You may not know a bunch of folks here, but there are a lot of caring people who care about you.

Brian,

A lot say they are sorry. I am so happy that you found it now. Full recovery is not only possible, but very very probable.

My wife had colon cancer 10 years ago. She is normal and very active right now. Good doctors, the right treatment, good luck, and a little intervention by God will have her on her feet in no time.

Today is a good day. A bad day would have been this day in 2008. Look on the bright side forever.
[:D]

Brian, many here will have you and your wife in their prayers and thoughts. God will take care of your wife and with your continued strong support she will recover. Time heals all things.

May the good Lord bless you, your wife, and your family.

Brian, I agree with Bob Keyes in that I would like to say how glad I am for you that you are able to be writing what you did as the outcome could have been drastically different!

I almost lost my sweetie three years ago to Cancer as she had a very rough ordeal, many surgeries and multiple treatments but faught hard and by the grace of GOD pulled through. I took an early retirement to spend all my time with her and now she is doing a lot better and we cherish every single day we are together because we have learned one of the most important things about life as I'm sure you have too.

Keep looking on the bright side!

George

Brian,
We seem to be having a bout of bad luck within our community. Let's all pray, or whatever every everyone does in their time of need, that your wife and all the other members and their families, that are suffering, get well soon. I am sure that if you reach out to the members who have suffered similarly, you will get great mental support.
Good Luck and God Bless

PS, Stories like this put things into perspective. I was just sitting here complaining to my wife, not ten minutes ago, that one pen finish is not coming out the way I want it. It's just not that big of a deal.

Best wishes to you and your family. I had a similar experience a little over 18 years ago when my 1st wife was pregnanet with my now near 18 year old daughter. Went in for a "fatty deposit" in the neck to find out cancer and she was three months pregnant. All turned out well and not something I ever want to go through again. My leg I talked about in another tread also got broken for the first time about three weeks after that doctor visit.

My she have a fast recovery.

So true. I'm just glad I have someone to show my pens too every day!

Prayers will be said for you both from here too.

As good the news is that the CA was caught early...please follow all the treatment and follow ups. It is a nastily persistent disease that needs constant monitoring.

God bless you both.

hi brian, my thoughts and prayers are with you both, but what makes it worse in my eyes is she is only 29 yrs, but i am sure she is a strong women, take care, regards colin.

Heys guys, we got the pathology report this afternoon. Laura's lymph nodes are 100% clean, but her liver came back positive. The doctor said this doesn't change anything as far as her outcome or chemo treatment. It just tells us she still has cancer. He talked to the oncologist and he said the type of ovarian cancer she has is 100% treatable. It is epithelial adno carcinoma which is the easiest type of cancer to treat. We're keeping our heads high and trying to stay positive. She's ready to fight this to the end, and I'm ready to fight with her.

Thanks guys,

Brian.
