I have seen a few light colored SE Asia rosewood pieces at a specialty store in Nagoya. It looked kind of weird at first. My first thought when I saw your top picture withOUT reading your statement - was that it looks like the few pieces of rosewood that I saw in Nagoya.
ON a similar note, I have seen rosewood here that looks like cocobolo with goldish/orangish streaks. They are in the same family - I think.
