I have a silicone mold I bought a while ago. When I flexed it to remove my latest castings, the mold broke/tore in a number of places. Is it possible to repair this (glue or ??) or is it time to get a new mold

Thanks.

I repair mine all the time-----you can only twist and bend them so many times before your tear one. I bought a $3.99 tube of 100% Clear Silicone---I apply a small amount to the crack and let her sit over night----so far that has worked every time for me.

I am not sure if this will help you, but the short answer is yes you can fix the mold.

A simple fix is the crack fill, cure, and reuse.

If your mold cracked, it will crack again.

Depending on the mold, when I have repaired them in the past I took in account the reason for the break...usually I would take cheap fabric like muslin and build a skin with silicone and the muslin on the outside to create a stronger skin.

This will offer an increased strength and usually cures the issue of why it was cracking, but not always.

Worth a shot.

Good luck with your project.

I don't think I would risk cataclysmic results by using a broken or cracked mold.......I think I would just buy a new one. (shameless plug for ResinSavers)

I've found the best silicone for repairs is labeled "aquarium" silicone. It's clear, pure, and stinks. ;)

It's more expensive as a rule, but you're only using small amounts for repairs.
