I have just started casting PR. I got into it because I thought if I made an ice cream scoop out of it, I could wash it in the dishwasher, where as with wood, I definitely could not.

What do you think? Did I assume right, or is it a bad idea to wash PR items in the dishwasher? Thanks!

It will slowly loose luster --- but should do fine. Be sure to use adhesives designed for higher temperatures if you are going to go to the dishwasher.

Used it for knife handles and they are still going strong

In short, yes it can be dishwashered! I make PR wine glasses, and kitcken divas will not have them, if it can't survive the "Kitchen Aid". The trick is to spray it with PAM before washing it. Commercial dishwashers heat water to 175 degrees. While PR will handle this, it kills the shine. They won't melt without the pam spray, but it does make them look like high quality knife handles look, after dishwashing.

Home dishwashers heat water to 125-130 degrees. The PAM keeps a lube on th PR during the "heat up" stage. BTW, Pam keeps knife handles that go through the dishwasher, looking new, too.
