Got a request for a bottle stopper, but customer want to use it for Diet Coke. Will they keep the fizz in? Any specific brand work better than others for this?

hmm im tired but, a few days ago someone posted some lidded box tops , i think, with plastic screw caps holding the lid on.

Mabey you could turn and created something around the plastic cap , then glue it in.

Bruce,

I doubt if it would work for carbonated drinks. If the CO2 builds up, you would have a bottle stopper projectile. Much as I love my Diet Coke, it does not rate a bottle stopper INHO.

No; but if you don't mind flat Cokes, they will keep the bugs out!![:D]

I don't know if it is because she is tight or just likes flat soda; but I always find three or four open cans of soda in her fridge...and, no, she doesn't bake[?][?]

Bruce,
Sounds like what you might want to do is turn a "bottle stopper", but drill a hole in it and "counter-sink" in (for lack of a better term) a standard bottle cap. Rough up the outside a little more (the texturing will be helpful, but...), and use something like epoxy or a polyurethane glue to hold it in place. Actually, my wife and I drink a lot of Diet Coke, so maybe I'll have to give this a try too! [:D]

Actualy, now that I think about it, someone here had a different type of bottle stopper listed in the classifieds a few months ago. One where, when you twisted it, an o-ring expanded out and made contact with the inside of the bottle. If you do some searching, you might be able to find the thread, or perhaps someone else here can point you to the vendor. I'll also look in my stack of "stuff" - I ordered a few of those bottle stoppers, and may be able to send you one (assuming I can find them again).

Jim: I made something exactly like that for the cap on my bottle of Louisiana Hot Sauce(Tabasco). Those bottles are hard to open if they have been sitting around unopened fe a month ot two and thise little white caps are hard to get a good hold on......not any more!!!

Whoaaaa.... this sure jogged my memory. About three years ago my wife and I went to a Lyle Lovett outdoor concert at Chastain Park in Atlanta. It was a sell-out audience. Just before the performance, I popped the cork on our wine bottle. You guessed it .... that sucker sailed thru the air six rows in front of us and bopped some old gal right on the bean. A bunch of people started looking around to see where it came from .....I lowered the bottle real quick and joined right in.[:D]

Thanks all - I think I got some really good ideas - Think I will try some of the ginter style as well as inserting a standard bottle cap. Will try to come up with a way to replace the standard cap (other than a set screw which would be a little tacky) when it gets yucky.

Hey.....just kidding, of course!![:D][:D]
Oh yeah, you may not realize this ... but, I'm a pretty sufistacated guy! And,. having a doctoral degree ... that makes me real well red.[;)]

Thanks Gary, that's what I had in mind!

Bruce, if you make the body from acrylic, you could simply wash the whole thing.

Randy, don't do that to me!!! Here I am in exile in Pennsylvania, and you start talking about hot sauce. Traditionally, Louisiana Hot Sauce is made with cayenne peppers and McIlhenny's Tabasco Sauce uses tobasco peppers.

Please excuse the drool marks at the bottom of my post. [:(]
