"Hey dad, I bought this stick back as a souvenir from my trip to Northern California... can you make a pen out of it?"

Clean and simple, nothing to flashy... but means more to him because of the memory associated with it, and is special to me because he asked for it (most of the time wifey and the kids avoid my hobbies like the plague).

WTF finish... which didn't seem to go on as smooth as the time before when I used it. I seemed to have dull spots and shiny spots, even after 15-20 coats. The spots kinda match the grain and character of the wood like there was something about the wood that accepted the finish better than others. Or what I'm describing as dullness is some type of property of the wood that I'm seeing through the finish. It looks natural, in any case.
