Ok am I imagining this. i bought a piece of Spalted Maple and punky so I thought I would soak it in CA super thin glue and give it a go. When I put the CA on the wood I could actually see the fumes coming off the wood like smoke and got an instant nasty bend u over headache. My question is it normal to see the fumes from the glue?

I have to avoid CA like the plague because teh fumes cause me to have serious health issues including what you encountered. I've tried using it sparingly and still have problem with my eyes burning profusely and a headache for the rest of the evening. The CA may have reacted with something on or in the wood to cause the reaction you got. had the wood been treated with anything or stabilized before working it?

Plain old cutoff piece in the bargain bin but I have never turned or worked with spalted wood. The CA might explain all these dang nasty headaches I have been having, time to get a respirator I guess.

I just do it outside if I am trying to stabilize things like that. I've done a few corncobs so far. Otherwise, I let the dust collector suck the fumes away.

Ditto on the dust collector, or use a box fan to blow the fumes away from you.....or spend a little more and get odorless CA.

I agree that CA puts off some horendus fumes. These fumes are what you see on the CSI shows in the tanks when they want to raise fingerprints. The fumes stick to the oils on the prints and they just pop out. I am not sure if its exactly the same CA but it sure is close. I get terrible burning in the eyes even with my resparator. Nasty stuff.
