today i found out that you guys did not tell lies when you told about ca fumes. putting it on a small cedar bowl, it melted my nitril glove. brought tears to my eyes, and the 8 layers of paper towel were smoking . iam unable to smell, so my nose was not punished. i think i will stick to spar poly.in a spray can.

ooooooh gotta love it lol :p
It makes my nose feel all tingly and my eyes water so much but hey its what you gotta do for a good finish

To be honest , CA is NOT a good finish for bowls or boxes , it IS a good finish for pens and other small turnings but that's it . Pens take allot of abuse in their daily use and need the extra protection that a good CA finish supplies . Bowls and other turnings require a different finish . Lacquer and Poly are a much better finish for the larger surface area of bowls and platters and even boxes . These are things that are not subject to the continuous daily handling that pens are . Save the CA for pens .

I just finished turning 9 sierras tonight and had to stabilize a couple and remember now why I hate using CA. My eyes were burning, nose running and now my head feels like it's going to explode. I'm gonna pay for this for about a week.

You are right. At least use a fan blowing the fumes to the side, away from you. I dealt with a couple of sinus infections before I figured out it was the CA.

Watch out later on tonight ... you might have an asthma like attack.
I do every time I get a big whiff of the fumes.
It gets hits me about 8pm.

I use Benadryl and Bronchial Mist when it really gets bad to clear it up.

I use USA Gold C.A. and sometime use the NCF brand accelerator, both from Woodcraft. Noticed on the side of the can of accelerator it states, "For the strongest bonds, use with "Hot Stuff, Super t, Special T & UFO" [user friendly ODORLESS]. NCF cures all instant glues. If that's the case, I'm gonna try the Hot Stuff & see how it works. This USA Gold is strong smelling and burns lungs/eyes bad. But have never had the stuff fail for gluing tubes or anything else.

I don't know the brand name... I just call it Monty's glue, but try buying from him... it's very near the Hot Stuff quality and much less expensive in the long run... I usually buy in $20+ increments and get 3 - 2 oz bottles.. one each of thin, med, thick plus I can add a 2 oz accelerator or something to make sure I'm over the $20 minimum for free shipping. Plus service is usually in 3 days from order... his epoxy is great too... only has the 5 minute, but that's all I use now.
