I've always known the velum papers I have at my desk are smoother and seem to be nicer to write on with a fountain pen, rollerball, gel, or "liquid silk". Problem is they're not terribly convenient. Or cheap.

My very first customer just handed me a stack of Moleskine notebooks. WOW! I like them better than the velum. And they're relatively inexpensive.

So what other brands out there are nice to write on?

Moleskine is one that a lot of people use. Good paper and widely available. Rhodia is another. I think Barnes and Noble usually carries it. For my purpose, a lot of cardstock, as in 3x5 cards, has a pretty good surface for writing with a fountain pen. I'll be interested in what others recommend.

Scott.

I go to the bookstore and buy packets of the little moleskin notebooks and give one away with each fountain pen and sketch pencil.
