I am not a happy bunny. There was I working away quite happily sanding the finishing touches to a Desrt Ironwood Euro. Heard a little pop and the lathe stopped turning. Pushed the button and the lathe started but wouldnt stay running unless I kept my finger on the button. So CA glue in one hand, Paper towel in the other and trying to hold in the button to keep the lathe turning. Not Easy. DOH:(:(:(:(

Had this before with my previous lathe and it was the no load switch that had to be replaced. At least its under warranty

So thats me snookered(technical term) until I can contact the company and have a new switch sent over:(:(

I dont think I can be bothered digging out my old cheepo lathe and start using that in the meantime. Ah well, wheres my Xbox, I gotta go kill some aliens:):):)

Sorry to hear of your plight Hugh, I had a similar experience, but it was when I bought a crappy cheap variable speed lathe when I started pen turning.

Broke down after 3 months, got it repaired under warranty then broke down again a few months later.

Very frustrating indeed![:(!]

I now use a DVRxp which is variable speed and a Jet 1014 which is a manual.

Hope you get back on track soon!

Hi mark

The first one was a SIP (cheap starter lathe) This one is a Scheppach DMS 900 ( german engineering is supposed to be so good )

Have to admit that the capacitor in the motor went in the first couple of months which they switched out no problem. Its a fairly well built lathe and cost about £300. It has certainly handled every piece of wood I have chucked on it so far.

If this wasnt just a hobby I may have spent big bucks but This one will have to do for the forseable future [:)][:)][:)]

Seem weird to me that you would have the same problem with two different lathes. I understand tho, I have a spirit, imp, invisible other or what have you that follows me around and knocks things off the shelves when I'm shopping. I'll be 2 - 4 feet away and something will just jump off the shelf. Now I'm starting to watch for it to happen [:0]

BTW, LOML like to play army on his XBOX [:D]
