Here is a little bowl - about 5-1/2 inches across and hardly 2 inches high - turned from buckthorn. Buckthorn is considered an invasive species here in Wisconsin, but is a fairly dense wood. Usually it is redder (or pinker) than shown here, but the color in these pics is accurate and this is more yellow.

The bowl has two coats of WOP and is buffed out. IMHO it's one of the prettiest bowls I have made to date. I am quite pleased with it.

I like the balance between letting the bowl be the object and letting the bowl be that canvas for the grain. Very elegant.
