Bubba is a male Chinese Shar Pei that we are currently caring for. As some of you may remember, I have posted some details on here about Chinese Shar Pei rescue that my wife is heavily involved in and has been for the past 12 years or so. It is all non profit and functions through donations and adoption fees only. The rescue organization helps owners rehabilitate injured and miss treated dogs and places them into suitable homes all over the United States.
Six days we received a frantic phone call from one of our foster homes stating that Bubba had gotten out. An immediate search was performed but he could not be found. On the 30th, my wife received a phone call from the previous foster stating that they had found Bubba but he had been badly injured. Most likely a vehicle but nobody had seen what happened. He was taken to the local Emergency Vet and ended up spending 4 days there.
Bubba has been at our house healing for the past 3 days and is progressing well. He still has to go through some surgical procedures to repair his dislocated hip but some of his other injuries must heal before this can happen. We think that we will be able to have the hip repaired over the next week or so. The details of his injuries and all the work we try to do for the breed are listed on a couple of websites if you are interested in his progress. If you would like to view them they are located at:
http://www.sharpeirescuenetwork.org/

Current donations cover about 25% of his current medical needs. It is really tough for me to say this because I am not used to asking for anything but if you have the ability to make a tax deductable donation to the cause, we would be forever grateful. All the information should be available on the sharpeirescue.org website.
He has been a wonderful dog through these tough times and has been trying really hard to fit in with our dogs. I think when he starts to feel better, he will fit even more. It will be a long road until he is ready to go to a suitable home but I am quite certain he will make a family very happy once he is fully healed.

Thanks for listening!!

Pictures

I should have added some pictures with the first post.
The first picture is the before and the second picture is him afterward but to prevent grossing anyone out, my daughter strategically covered his wounds. Most of them are on his right rear leg and his abdomen.

Fred,

I just sent a little cash your way. I hope this helps a little. Hopefully a lot more people do the same. Every little bit adds up.

Jason

What a beautiful dog! I've never seen a full grown Shar Pei before. Hope he recovers soon. I'm glad to know there are great people like your family taking care of him.

Glad to hear the dog is on the mend Fred, it was my cousin who introduced the breed into the UK from China her name is Heather Ligget and I think she lives in America now.

I will ask my wife if they have crossed paths. She is the one that conducts most of this, I am just a supporter when needed and this is one of those times.

It is almost like having a newborn in the house again!!

Hi Fred!

Bubba looks just like my Son's Shar Pei, Booboo. I sent a little money your way. I hope he's headed for a full recovery and a loving home!

Scott.

Thanks Scott!! We saw that come in and I am going to send you a PM with a question.

Every little bit counts.

New web page to show progress

A new web page was set up to show the progression for donation help toward Bubba.

He went to the vet today to get some more work done and they didn't get it all completed so it is quiet around the house tonight. I am sure he will be happy to come back home tomorrow.

If you want to check on the progress the web page is located here:

Thanks for the help we have received so far!!!

Fred,

Just received the latest update about Bubba from your wife, and I saw you were still $1000 short of what is needed to cover his medical bills. I can't spare too much, but I have sent you some more money to help out. I hope it helps.

Jason

Bubba update

Well, he went back to the Vets office today and his wounds are healing fine. In fact, well enough that they removed the last of his staples and he is having his left hip surgery next Saturday. His surgery is the same as that performed on dogs with hip displasia because his hip is essentially dislocated but will not stay in it's socket due to muscular damage from the accident.

As his right leg heals, he has begun to use his injured left leg less and less. That means that his rehabilitation on his left leg may be a bit slower than we had desired.

If you are interested in his recovery, his blog is located here:

***GRAPHIC Don't click the below link unless wounds don't both you***
We have included some pictures of his wounds and have shown his progress in healing at the following link. It is healing well but don't click the link if you are squemish. We are hoping over time that the skin will fill itself back in.

As Jason says, every little bit counts and all donations are used in his rehabilitation!!! Shar Pei Rescue of Virginia is a totally non-profit and all the time and effort is put in by volunteers all over the country!!

Bubba has been doing great!! He actually got his FHO surgery on Monday and is home recovering now.

There have been several organizations that have come to our aid and we very much appreciate that!! Jason is right, only a little bit left to cover his medical costs.

If you are interested in keeping up with his progress, you can see his blog in one of the links above. You will see that he has some videos that show his real personality. He is really a sweet dog. That's why we have done all that we have for him. But, it couldn't be done without the help some here have provided. Especially you JASON!!!

Thanks again. Tina and I thank you all with all of our hearts!!!
