I just made a cigar pen from a blank I made a few years ago. The blank is made from acrylic resin and is colored opaic brown and white. My question is I could not get it to come up to a shine even after using MM to 12000. Does opaic brown have a different property that prevents it from coming to a shine? I am sure it is resin and not anything else because of the smell when I turned it. I am thinking of taking the pen apart and trying buff it on a wheel.
Any thoughts?

I bought a batch of beautiful blue swirled with white acrylic blanks from another IAP member a few years back. I could not get them to polish to a shine either. I ended up putting a CA finish on them. I doubt if you're doing anything wrong, your acrylic and mine were probably made of the same material. Bite the bullet and put a CA finish on them.

If any of you acrylic experts know which acrylic(s) wont polish to a shine please chime in with the type. Curious minds want to know.
