Can someone recommend a wood box that will fit a Lotus fountain pen? My other woodworking skills are not up to par to make my own and the customer requested a wood box.

Although I've never bought one, I've always thought these type of boxes make a really awesome box. That Lotus would look slick in this on a desk.

One in black and one in rosewood, depending on the pen material. They also have larger inserts if needed.

Obviously the glass makes it not applicable to all situations, but I always thought it was a cool presentation box for a higher end pen.

This one is more applicable if you need to ship the pen or don't want to worry about glass.

Good Luck!

I found this discussion in my search - but it I haven't quite found the answer I am looking for. The PSI boxes actually look nice, but they are not what the customer wants.

Does anyone know if the Lotus pen will fit into one of BB's (AS) wooden boxes

with either the Emperor insert:

or the Gent/Statesman insert

I have only made two large pens (Lotus & Imperial), mainly for my collection but I have a buyer for the Lotus and she wants one of these boxes. I have never actually made a large pen to compare it to, as the Jr.'s are plenty large for me. I would also prefer to order from AS (or CSUSA) so I can go ahead and take advantage of getting some blanks/kits for shipping amount I will have to pay.

Oh, I'd give BB a call, but its 5:30 AM there right now and would probably be of no use!

I know Kallenshaan has a similar box but for much more and no engraving is desired. LauLau at CSUSA have the Havana wood box (this might fit) but the customer is also not interested in that. I've tried.... : )

Help. Please.

Thanks.

My guess is that a Lotus will not fit in one of those boxes from AS. I have tried them before for Gents/Statesmen, and despite trying a number of different inserts (both the one "designed" for the Gent/Stateman, as well as the one for the Emperor), I could not make it fit (and these were not pregnant, bulbous pens - they were fairly close to b to b...). They also have a cheap feel to them that would probably lessen the elegant impact you are trying to make with such a fine pen.

Ultimately, though, it is the customer that dictates what he or she wants, so if she is deadset on the AS-style box, you might have to find a way to make it work. Perhaps you could rout out a couple of grooves in both the bottom and the lid to add some breathing room, and then make your own custom insert out of a piece of velvet.

AS has a maple box with recessed area in the lid. This allows some extra room for the clip. It also provides a nice place to put a business or wood id card. Some glue dots hold the card nicely.

I agree about the inserts. They do not seem thick enough for the larger pens. Maybe stack two inserts together?

If pricing allowed, you could ask a box maker to help.

The inserts are never large enough for the pens they claim to fit. Even a B2B will be a little tight. Always go with the biggest insert available!
