This little bowl had the works. Burl and spalting and some nice coloring to boot.
I tried turning it green a week ago and it was so heavily spalted that it was giving me a problem with chipping out. So I only turned it within 10% of finished size .
I put it in a DNA soak overnight and then wrapped it in brown paper with a hole in the top.
I left it on a small scales to follow drying progress and it dried quickly in one week . Put it back on the lathe this afternoon and used a lot of CA to stabilize it as I turned it.
I was not sure if I would be able to turn this one because it was so heavily spalted but I think it turned out not half bad.

I will be buying CA in larger quantities next time because it is more economical than the little two ounce bottles.

Am I missing something? Where is all the heavy spalting?
Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful bowl, just not what I expected before I scrolled down.

I agree the spalting is not that evident once it is stabilized and finished but if you had seen how punky some areas were and how much CA it soaked in to stop it from disintegrating you would have had a better idea of it. It soaked thin CA in like a sponge .
I should have taken a before and after picture. I have lots more of that wood so perhaps I will do that next time.
