Or those if you who turn stuff larger than pens, what is your favorite / go to finish?

I'm thinking about some kind if oil finish with a wax coat maybe.

I'm starting to get into this stuff and want to avoid buying too many products on the way!

Thanks for the input.

I use Velvit Oil made in Neenah, WI; not sure if it's available in your area. Also consider Dr.W/S walnut oil; I put it the Purpleheart Clicker that I posted a week or so ago, and I think I'm going to start putting it on bottle stoppers also.

Here's a link to Velvit Oil's site.

Here is a Cherry & Purpleheart bowl I finished with the Velvit Oil.

I have had pretty good success with Minwax Antigue Oil Finish. It's readily available. I typically apply about 8 coats. I plan to try some Doctor's Workshop finishes but have not ordered any as of yet.

Danish oil is my go-to finish. Woodcraft used to sell a urethane oil that I really liked, but I don't think they sell it anymore -- it dried clearest of all oil finishes I tried without imparting the yellowish warmth. Wipe on polyurethane or gel polyurethane is good too. Tung oil or a polymerized tung oil is nice too.

I like a satin finish on most of my turnings, so after several coats, I knock back any shine with 0000 steel wool, and I don't buff to increase the shine.
